1 Hotel Tokyo

Inspired by the experience of moving through nature, CRÈME’s design for 1 Hotel Tokyo creates a sense of retreat within the density of the city. From the street level arrival, guests are met with a wall of greenery that signals a transition away from the urban pace and into a more restorative environment. The journey upward is conceived as a vertical narrative, likened to ascending the trunk of a tree and emerging into the canopy at the lobby, where layered plantings and Oya stone establish a calm and grounded atmosphere.

Anchored by sweeping views of Tokyo Tower and the surrounding city, the interiors balance openness with a sense of enclosure. Managed by SH Hotels & Resorts, the property features 211 guestrooms and suites alongside reimagined public spaces. Natural materials, verdant installations, and wood detailing are integrated throughout to foster a quiet, immersive connection to nature. A central feature of the project, Oya stone is arranged in a stacked composition that subtly references the stonework of the Imperial Palace, reinforcing a strong sense of place.

Reclaimed, locally sourced materials were selected for their texture, character, and history, emphasizing craftsmanship and the passage of time. Drawing from traditional Japanese principles of restraint and materiality in an abstracted way, the design avoids literal references while creating an environment that feels distinctly local, contemporary, and restorative.
